SCHOOL NUTRITION, CHILD NUTRITION OR

SCHOOL FOOD SERVICE BEST PRACTICES!

Poems, Pictures, and Practices from the Best of the BEST

...School Nutrition Professionals!

Leanna Blase, Nutrition Services Assistant Supervisor, Pueblo County School District 70 -Pueblo CO

At the start of each school year, Leanna requests her School Nutrition TEAM read the following poem.  It's a wonderful way to remind her team that ALL Children NEED OUR LOVE--whether they come from a great home or 'not so great' home!

1

Hey (LUNCH) Lady

I wrote you a letter, Did YOU See?

It says, "I LOVE YOU."  Do You Love ME?

Would you love me just a little today?

1

We don't got much food on our table,

'cause my dad don't work...he ain't able.

Hey, Lady, I sure am hungry today.

1

My face is dirty, and my hair ain't combed,

'cause mom was asleep when i left home.

Hey, Lady, would you say 'Hi' to me today?

1

I didn't get much sleep last night,

'cause mom and dad, well, they had a fight.

Hey, Lady, would you smile at me today?

1

My dad got drunk and so did my mother.

Then he beat me and my little brother.

Hey, Lady, would you hug me today?

1

The other kids, they make fun of me.

My clothes is dirty, and I got a hole in my knee.

Hey, Lady, would you be my friend today?

1

Well, mom and dad, they always yell.

My life at home is a living hell.

Hey, Lady, please love me today.

1

Hey, Lady, Won't Somebody LOVE ME Today?

Each School Year, Marci and her School Nutrition Team strive to create a Fun-Filled Themed 'Back-to-School' InService.

The 2016 Warsaw Food Service Back-to-School Theme was:  'A RED CARPET EVENT'.  They created a 'Star Performance Academy' for 24 managers and Trainees, a 'Food Tasting Extravaganza' and a 'MGM Big Production' for all 90 cast member performers.

Vendors were encouraged to help make it a great gathering of GLITZ & GLAMOUR by dressing in their Hollywood Best or Dressing as their Favorite Hollywood Star.   Vendors also provided 'SWAG' for 'Swag Bags', samples or marketing tools, to allow performers to try new products.  Awards and door prizes were given out for all training sessions.

Exquiste Personal Invitations were sent to Cast Members.

All Cast Members Got to Walk the RED CARPET...A Real Red Carpet!  Cast Members Stepped Off the RED CARPET onto the 'Walk of Stars' where they each had a Personal 'Star' with their Name on it.  After the event, the vinyl 'Stars' were peeled off the Floor and became a 'Momento of the DAY'.  Most Cast Members took their 'Star' back to their kitchen and posted them on the Walls or Office Door.   Everyone LOVED Being a Star!  (To order the Stars:  Shindigz Party Supplies  800-314-8736  http://www.shindigz.com/  )

The Evening Extravaganza created a HOLLYWOOD ATMOSPHERE with an elegant dinner, Red Carpet Fashions, and Glitz.

Marci also worked with Local Newspapers to Gain Positive Press for her School Nutrition Professionals.
